Evenings at Brighton Marina, with Marina

Marina, the Capenza crew member, with her plants over a map of Brighton Marina

The crew, 03 of 07.

Marina lives on the water's edge with a plant on every windowsill. She's saving for a boat, and until then she spends her evenings on the harbour wall. Here's her end of town.

Who is Marina?

Marina lives on the water's edge and fills every windowsill with plants. She waters them first thing, then heads down to the pontoons to see what's come in overnight.

She's saving for a boat of her own and already knows where she'll take it first. Until then she walks the harbour wall most evenings and watches the light go down over the cliffs.

She likes clothes that cope with salt, wind and the odd bag of compost.

The Marina, her way

Brighton Marina sits at the eastern end of the seafront, below the chalk cliffs. It's a working harbour full of boats, with homes, restaurants and walks around the water, and it feels a world away from the busy piers.

The harbour wall

Marina's evening walk. Look back towards town for the whole seafront, or out to sea for the boats coming in.

The pontoons

Where she goes first thing to see what came in overnight, and to pick out the boat she'll own one day.

The cliffs and the Undercliff Walk

From the Marina, a flat path runs along the bottom of the white cliffs towards Rottingdean. Great for a walk, a run or a cycle.

Volk's Electric Railway

The little seafront railway runs between the Palace Pier and Black Rock, near the Marina, and is one of the oldest electric railways in the world. The easy way back into town.

What Marina wears

A sage green cap, a white heavyweight tee and a pine green tote for the plants she keeps bringing home.

See Marina's crew page: the full drawing, front and back, and a map of where to find them.
